Kites slice through the air at festival
Kelly Mao, 4, of Buffalo Grove runs with her pink handmade kite flying in the wind behind her.

Dozens of kites were taken up into the air by the wind Aug. 9 at the Chicago Botanic Garden two day Kite Festival.

The Chicago Fire Kite Team entertained spectators with routines using multiple sport kites set to music.

Thirty children, some with the help of their parents, participated in a Mad Dash and worked to get their kite into the air the quickest. Whoever was able to get their kite into the air and flying the highest would win a nice kite.

The public was also invited to put their kites into the air during certain periods throughout the day.
