Lake County Fourth of July events guide

No Fourth of July is complete without a parade, fireworks and activities for the whole family. So, get ready to break out the lawn chairs and patriotic garb for this year's Independence Day celebrations.

NeighborhoodCircle.com has compiled a list of the scheduled events in various communities in the area.

Deerfield

Deerfield Family Days July 3 & 4
Come celebrate 45 years of food, fireworks and fun on Thursday, July 3rd in Brickyards Park, off Kates Road west of Waukegan Road. Admission is free! For July 3rd and 4th Food and Rides: $.50 per ticket – Books of 20 for $10. Tickets available for pre-sale at Village Hall, Jewett Park Community Center, West Deerfield Township, DBR Chamber of Commerce, Patty Turner Senior Center and Koenig and Strey.

5 p.m. – Gates open. Concession sales begin

6 p.m. -- Enjoy live music by The Lennys

7 p.m. -- Raising of the Flag by the American Legion and singing of the National Anthem

9:15 p.m. – Fireworks! Our largest and most exciting display!

On Friday, July 4, celebrations will take place at the Jewett Park Community Center and Grounds, 836 Jewett Park Drive

7:30 to 10:30 a.m. -- Pancake Breakfast in Jewett Park hosted by the members of the Patty Turner Senior Center.

7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Arts and Crafts Sales: Park Grounds

8 a.m. -- Deerfield Rotary Club 10k Race starting at Walden School

8 to 9 a.m. -- Bike Decorating and Parade: Parking Lot at Rosemary Terrace and Deerfield Road

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Flower Show: Submit flowers for judging between 8 -9:30 a.m., Oak Room, Jewett
Park Community Center

8:45 to 10 a.m. -- Dog Show: Picnic Shelter Patio

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- Rides, Games, Petting Zoo, Ponies and Concessions: Jewett Park Grounds

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- DJ Entertainment: Jewett Park Grounds

Noon – Deerfield Fourth of July Parade starting at Deerspring Pool and ending at Jewett Park

1 to 5 p.m. Free Swimming for everyone at Deerspring Pool and Mitchell Pool

Grayslake

The Taste of Grayslake and Fireworks, presented by the Grayslake Community Park District and supported by the Village of Grayslake and Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place this summer on Saturday, June 28 i n Central Park. This event is a wonderful opportunity to sample some of the many flavors that the Grayslake restaurant scene has to offer.

3 to 10 p.m. – Enjoy the festival and fireworks at dusk

Highland Park

July 4 Parade, Festival and Fireworks Displays

10 to 11 a.m. – Fourth of July Parade in downtown Highland Park. Eye-catching floats, marching bands and more. For more information, please call 847-579-3210.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Fourth Fest in Sunset Woods Park, 1801 Sunset Road, Highland Park. Carnival games, pony rides, live entertainment, concessions, petting zoo and more. For more information, please call 847-579-3120.

7 to 10 p.m. – Come watch the fireworks, sponsored by the City of Highland Park, in Wolter's Field, 1080 Park Avenue West. For more information, please call 847-432-0800.

8:15 to 10:45 p.m. – Relax in the pool at Hidden Creek AquaPark while gazing up at the sky to watch the spectacular display of colors. This event is sponsored by North Shore Nissan. Hidden Creek AquaPark is at 1220 Fredrickson Place, Highland Park. For more information, please call 847-433-3170.

Lake Bluff

July 3

7 p.m. - 33rd Annual Firemen's Ball at Blair Park, 355 West Washington Ave., west of Green Bay Road.

July 4

6:30 to 9:45 a.m.. – Kiwanis Club of Lake Bluff/Lake Forest 36th Annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast on the Lake Bluff Village Green, Scranton and Central Avenues, Lake Bluff.

10 a.m. – Independence Day Parade in downtown Lake Bluff.

11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. – Family Fair in Artesian Park, 10 E. Sheridan Place, Lake Bluff.

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – BLUFFINIA! Bring your family to the 4th of July Beach party at Sunrise Beach in Lake Bluff. Music by the Stingrays - great free outdoor family fun! Coordinated by the Lake Bluff Park District and sponsored by Baytree National Bank & Trust Company.

Lake Forest

July 3

Lake Forest Concert, Fireworks and Festival

7:30 p.m. – Deerpath Community Park, 400 Hastings Road, Lake Forest – A live concert with Eddie Money, a beer and wine garden, and food from local restaurants. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Adults $15 advance ($20 at gate); children $10; children under 7 free.

July 4

Lake Forest Festival and Fireworks

9 a.m. – A community fest for all ages with food, music, kids entertainment with the evening culminating in a traditional fireworks presentation. Admission is free. Festival highlights include music stage with live bands, food, beer and wine garden, kid’s area featuring magicians, games & much more, plus fireworks, choreographed to patriotic music. In Deerpath Park, behind Deerpath Middle School.

Libertyville

July 3

7 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Weekly MainStreet Libertyville Farmers Market, Milwaukee Avenue and Church Street. Meet the farmers and buy the freshest of the fresh.

July 4

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Out To Lunch concert in Cook Park, Milwaukee and Church. Enjoy live bands and choose a delicious lunch from among 14 food vendors in Cook Park. Presented by MainStreet Libertyville.

7:30 p.m. - Out to Supper with the Village Band. The Village Band plays in Butler Park Bandshell until the fireworks begin at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.).

Mundelein

July 3
Mundelein Community Days on Seymour Avenue between Courtland and Division.

5 to 11 p.m. -- Mundelein Munch, carnival and musical entertainment

July 4
8 a.m. – 5k Freedom classic run.
8:10 a.m. -- 1.5 mile red, white and blue walk
9a.m -- 1 mile youth run
12 to 11 p.m. – Carnival, seniors 55+ horseshoe tournament, sidewalk chalk art contest, guitar hero tournament junior, junior idol and adult idol/karaoke contest.

9:30 to 10:30 p.m. – Fireworks on Seymour and Courtland

July 5
9:45 to 11 a.m. – Fort Hill Historical Society open house patriotic celebration featuring Mayor Kenneth Kessler, Lake County Clerk Willard Helander, and other speakers. Music by a brass quintet. Museum open from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Mundelein Community Days
12 to 11 p.m. – Carnival, pet parade and pet costume contest, cute pet tricks, art and crafts fair, bingo, “bags” tournament, pony rides, classic and antique car show, “celebrity” volleyball, fire safety trailer, fantasy faces face painting, magician, watermeleon eating contest, McNulty Irish Dancers.

3 p.m. -- Get your game on with everyone’s “favorite backyard game”, Baggo® as the Mundelein Park & Recreation District hosts it second annual Baggo Tournament as part of the Mundelein Community Days festivities. The tournament is open to all ages and will be held at Kracklauer Park, 100 N. Seymour Avenue. Those interested must register. Registration will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Park’s tennis courts and the cost is $5 per entry. For more information call 847-566-0650.

July 6

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Red, White and Blue Ice Cream Social. Community Protestant Church will be hosting an ice cream social on the church grounds. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and watch the parade and enjoy a sweet treat. Church is located on the corner of Hawley and Prairie. Call 847-566-400 for more information.

2 to 4 p.m. – The Mundelein Fourth of July Parade will start at Prospect and Hawley Street and end at Mundelein High School.

Vernon Hills

July 4

8 a.m. – Bike decorating contest. Corner of Deerpath and Atrium

9 a.m. – Fourth of July Parade starts at Deerpath and Atrium, just south of Highway 60.

6:30 to 9:30 p.m. -- While the celebrations break after the parade so families can enjoy planned activities, and the rhythmic sounds of J.P and the Cats

9:30 p.m. -- Mayor Roger Byrne will set the skies over Big Bear and Little Bear Lake ablaze with color as Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc presents a dazzling aerial display of fireworks.
