From the North Shore Senior Center:
The North Shore Senior Center promises an unforgettable evening of cabaret-style entertainment with the Benefit for the House of Welcome. The fundraising event will take place at the North Shore Senior Center’s campus at 161 Northfield Road, Northfield, Ill., on Sunday, September 7, 2008. Chicago’s own Ron Hawking will be the featured performer, and will present his acclaimed show “The Men and Their Music,” a collection of musical numbers made famous by big names such as Bobby Darin, Ray Charles, Frankie Valli and Billy Joel.
Reservations are $200 per person, and will include a 5 p.m. cocktail reception and 6:45 p.m. dinner. Hawking’s performance immediately follows. A Silent Auction and a Grand Raffle featuring nine fabulous prizes will add to the evening’s excitement. Raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100.
To make your reservations or to purchase raffle tickets, call 847-784-6060. Raffle winners need not attend the Benefit to win. Prizes range from luxury weekends at downtown Chicago hotels to vacation trips to tours of local television studios.
Funds raised through the Benefit and the Grand Raffle help support the sliding fee scale and scholarships at the House of Welcome’s adult day services program for persons with memory loss. The Benefit receives additional corporate sponsorship from leading community businesses, especially Bridge Finance Group and Harris Bank, which are gold and silver sponsors, respectively.
In 1983, the North Shore Senior Center’s House of Welcome (HOW) was one of the first adult day services programs in the nation, and the very first in the Chicago area to provide services specifically for persons with memory loss. HOW participants – many of whom have Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia -- experience the pleasures of achievement, feelings of being respected, and the power of friendships in this unique program.
They may come to the House of Welcome a few days a week, or they may opt to attend programs daily. Whatever schedule families choose, HOW offers them assistance with, and some respite from, the task of caring for a loved one with memory loss. HOW also helps caregivers balance the needs of the individual with memory loss with their own work, school or parenting obligations. For more information on the House of Welcome, call 847-242-6250.
