Congressman urges hurricane relief

An open letter from 10th District Congressman Mark Kirk:

Dear Friends,

By tonight, many of our fellow citizens in the Gulf will need our help. Please help me fill trucks bound for the Gulf Coast with needed supplies for our fellow citizens in need.

When Katrina hit, thousands of 10th District citizens responded with needed relief supplies, emergency housing and money. One of our citizens, Dan Bitton, even rescued dozens using his own helicopter.

It looks like we must respond again. I have worked for years with Louisiana's Governor, Bobby Jindal. He tells me that we will need the following:

• Bottled Water
• Packaged and Canned Food
• Diapers
• Medical Supplies and
• Personal Care Products

Already, the following people and institutions requested assistance:

• David Raines Community Health Center of Shreveport, Louisiana;
• Morehouse Community Medical Center of Bastrop, Louisiana; and
• Primary Health Care Services of Monroe, Louisiana.

We will fill trucks with needed supplies for the Gulf starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3. Our trucks will roll for the Gulf as they are filled. Please join us, our Student Leadership Advisory Board and our other partners to show the people of Illinois at our best - helping our fellow citizens on the Gulf coast.

Who: 10th District Hurricane Gustav Relief

What: Filling trucks with listed supplies

When: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 3

Where: Back parking lot of 707 Skokie Boulevard, Northbrook, Illinois 60062, Phone 847-940-0202

Thank you in advance with our effort to help our fellow citizens in need.

Very truly yours,

Mark Kirk
Member of Congress
