Updated 12/1: Deerfield couple, Lake Forest family escape from terrorist-held Mumbai hotel

A Lake Forest family was among the tourists rescued from a Mumbai, India hotel that was overrun by terrorists earlier this week.

Deepak Dalia, a Gurnee radiologist and his wife, Himani, a pathologist at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan were eating dinner Wednesday night at the Oberoi Hotel when gunmen opened fire near the hotel lobby and began taking hostages, their daughter told a reporter.

A Deerfield couple escaped with the clothes on their backs from the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, India, after terrorists launched a series of deadly attacks Wednesday that as of today had killed 151 people in nine locations.

"So do you guys like our choice of hotels in Mumbai?" Joe and Marilyn Ernsteen joked in an e-mail to their anxious friends on the North Shore.
