Slap on the skates and take care not to fall. Local park districts are setting up outdoor skating rinks for residents to practice their best double-loops during this winter season.

We’ve gathered rink information in the North Shore and Lake County for this year's ice skating season. If you know of any rinks we’ve skipped, leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

DEERFIELD

The lights at the neighborhood rinks will be set to operate between 5-9:30 p.m. every night.

GRAYSLAKE

All rinks are unsupervised . Skating is only allowed in designated plowed areas. A flag will be flown at all
ice rinks to indicate if the ice is safe. Red flag means unsafe conditions and green flag means safe conditions. Hockey is only allowed at designated areas where signs are posted. The ice must be at least 6 inches thick throughout the skating area in order for it to open. The ice is checked on a daily basis. For updated ice conditions at the various parks, please call the Park District office at 847-223-7529.

HIGHLAND PARK

LAKE FOREST

Everett Park

For information on rink conditions call 847-234-6702. Do not skate on rink when “Do Not Skate” signs are posted.

The facilities will have guards on duty, when the ice is safe to skate on, during the following hours:

West Park:
Monday - Thursday 3:30-9 p.m.
Friday 3:30-10 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Sunday 12-9 p.m.

During the school holiday breaks, guarded hours will be as follows, when safe ice is present:
West Park:
Monday - Saturday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Sunday 12-10 p.m.

LIBERTYVILLE

Independence Grove
The entrance and parking area are located on Buckley Road (Route 137) just east of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21) and west of River Road.

Old School
The entrance and parking area are located on Saint Mary's Road just south of Route 176, and north of Route 60 (Townline Road).

NORTHBROOK

Meadowhill Park

The Park District needs three consecutive days of weather at 15 degrees or less to begin freezing the outdoor rinks. This cold spell must be followed by at least five days of weather below 32 degrees before the ice can be used for skating.

Skating is free. All will be required to show proof of residency.

Skating on Park District property is allowed only when a GREEN flag is flying at the rink or pond. If there is no flag, skating is not permitted. Check the Park District’s website or call the weather hotline at 847-996-6616.

WAUCONDA

Lakewood
The Preserve's main entrance (to Museum and Shelters C, D and E), is located on Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road.
Lighted and is open until 9 p.m. when conditions allow
