Training facility hosts Public Safety Awareness Day

Outside of emergency situations the public rarely sees what police officers, firefighters and public works personnel do on the job. To give residents an idea of what local first responders and city workers are trained to do, the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) will open its doors to the public for the first time in its history.

The conference offers a forum to meet with vendors, gain valuable insights from speakers, and take home practical strategies to maintain an independent lifestyle.




Field Ecology class gains environmental smarts

Students who sign up for the monthly Field Ecology programs hosted by the Lake County Forest Preserves can earn credits toward teaching degrees and certification as nature guides. But if the April 16 class is any indication, most people attending the classes are there because of a desire to learn about the environment.
