Blessing the beasts at North Shore United Methodist Church
Rev. Duk Kwon addresses the congregation, human and otherwise, on the church lawn.

Church services were held outdoors at North Shore United Methodist Church in Glencoe August 24 to better accommodate some special guests.

Rev. Duk Kwon oversaw a "blessing of the animals" for the congregation's pets, complete with appropriate hymns and prayers. About 50 church members and visitors were invited to bring their pets to church for a special blessing. About 30 animals received blessings.

Community service officer Katie Sweeney of Glencoe Public Safety Animal Control addressed the congregation about the history of animal blessing, dating back to St. Francis of Assisi, and talk about the village pet adoption program.
