When you enter a house or building, you’re probably not thinking about whether it’s properly constructed and safe. Fortunately, the Village’s Inspectional Services Division thinks about building safety and fire prevention every day.
During the week of May 5-11, the Village will celebrate National Building Safety Week to raise awareness and ensure the safety of the structures in which all of us live, work, attend school, worship and play.
“The important work we do is often overlooked until a catastrophic event,” said Ken Lehmann, the Village’s Director of Inspectional Services. “When building safety and fire prevention professionals inspect buildings during and after construction, we help to ensure that the places where you live, learn, work and play are safe.”
Building safety and fire prevention codes address all aspects of construction, such as structural soundness of buildings, reliability of fire prevention and suppression systems, plumbing and mechanical systems, and energy efficiency and sustainability, to ensure buildings are safe.
