Glenview children are taking a flight to fun with a new kids club thanks to the Glenview Public Library and the Glen Town Center. The club, which meets on the first Saturday of every month, mixes stories with fun activities for children age 6 and younger.

Winter Fun was the theme for the first meeting of the free club on Jan. 12 in the Kids Corner at the Book Market of Hangar One.

Glenview Librarian Maria Pontillas spent half an hour telling stories. There was also a “Silly Dance Competition” (which can be seen in the video at the bottom of the page).

After storytime, children could get their faces painted, read books available in the kids corner or watch magician and entertainer Mike Harvatt perform.

Parents spent time laughing with their children or perusing the shelves for books of their own. Toni Schab of Glenview brought her 4-year-old twins Nathan and Naomi to the event, which she called a perfect winter event.

“It’s a great way to get (children) out in winter,” she said. “It’s hard to find things for kids this age to do without being very expensive or not geared towards them. I love it. They love books and storytime, so it’s great.”

Julie Nold of Glenview watched as her daughter Sofia, 5, had a snowman painted on her face. She said that she was happy with the activities offered at the event.

“The kids always ask: ‘What are we going to do today?’” she said. “This is so great. I just saw it in the paper and thought it should be fun.”

The next Flight to Fun Kids Club will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 at the Book Market of Hangar One and the theme is “Be My Valentine.” The March 1 Kids Club will be held at a special time, 1:30 p.m., featuring Mike Locket “The Normal Storyteller.”

Events are free and open to the public, signing up for the club gives members discounts at certain Glen Town Center stores. Sign up at the Glenview Public Library or at the next Kids Club meeting. For more information on the kids club click here.
