From Suburbia to Africa
When two ordinary families decide to make a difference in Africa, something incredible can happen. Oasis for Orphans, a non-profit organization founded by two families from the Chicago area had a passion for the orphans of Kenya, and their lives will be forever changed.
It began four years ago as they embarked on a mission to change the reality of orphans living in the Trans Mara region of Kenya. The first year they were able to provide care for eleven orphans. Last year they raised support to care for 34 orphans and built the first phase of an orphanage which will have the capacity to house 60 orphans.
This weekend, Oasis for Orphans will be launching their first public sponsorship campaign to care for these orphans. Oasis for Orphans works in cooperation with The Trans Mara Development Group, a Kenyan Non-profit organization, to also provide opportunities for commerce and industry in the community surrounding the orphanage. This campaign will be launched at four of the five locations of The Chapel, in Barrington, Grayslake, Mundelein, and Libertyville. Meet Lemashon, one of the first eleven orphans:
Impoverished and malnourished, five-year-old Lemashon’s grandmother was unable to care for him. Lemashon was at such a level of depravity that he was unable to walk or even eat on his own – but that was before Oasis for Orphans entered his world.
As one of the first eleven orphans cared for by Oasis, Lemashon received the immediate medical care he needed and was slowly nursed back to health. Just two months of care brought drastic change into his life. Simple antibiotics cured an enormous abscess that had been growing on his face. A special diet enabled Lemashon to eventually regain enough strength to walk. The love and care brought into his life gave Lemashon a new reason to hope, and a glimpse of the love his creator has for both him and the millions of other orphans who share in his plight.
