Locals share New Year's Eve plans, resolutions

Before popping open a bottle of bubbly and cranking noise makers, residents were busy on the morning of Dec. 31, finishing up last-minute errands before the clock strikes midnight. NeighborhoodCircle.com caught up with six people in downtown Deerfield, Highland Park and Libertyville to see where they will be ringing in the New Year 2009.




Community gathers in Evanston to celebrate Kwanzaa

While Christmas trees were being taken down and Hanukkah menorahs packed, Kwanzaa celebrators were setting up kinaras and drums. Kwanzaa is a weeklong holiday which honors African heritage each year from Dec. 26-Jan. 1.

Christians around the world will soon be gathering to celebrate the birth of Christ. On Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, many families traditionally attend a holiday service or mass. Local places of worship will host candlelight masses, midnight masses and special family masses, where the Nativity story will be shared.
