Nortek Environmental, Inc in Naperville has what most other HVAC companies don’t: a female owner. Lisa Averill-Latimer, owner of Nortek Environmental since 2002, believes that being a woman-owned business sets Nortek apart and above her competition.
“We provide custom HVAC solutions that fit the needs of each individual customer, with energy saving options in mind,” Averill-Latimer proudly states. “I’m a mom and a homeowner. I can relate to my customers in a way that other HVAC companies can’t. I have children and pets at home, and I know what it feels like to have a tech come into your home that you can feel intimidated by and have concerns about. Nortek is family owned and operated, and we understand that women typically run the household and take care of its needs. We tailor our services to meet their needs.”
Nortek employs technicians who have been in the business for over 25 years. Averill-Latimer insists that doing business creatively, not traditionally, is the key to Nortek Environmental’s success. Nortek boldly opened a storefront business in a strip mall in south Naperville, the first business of its kind in the area to do so. Lisa believed that providing a showroom in which customers could see the products and meet with advisers would be helpful; people can come into Nortek and plan their HVAC needs for existing residential, new construction, and commercial projects. Lisa’s theory proved right. Other HVAC companies in the area have followed suit since Nortek’s storefront confirmed Lisa’s hunch.
“We’re not going anywhere,” Averill-Latimer emphasizes. “We don’t operate out of the back of a truck or out of our home. People can walk in here and meet with us and feel comfortable in a way they just can’t with other companies.” Starting with only one van in 2002, Nortek now utilizes five vans, covering a 35 mile service radius. Nortek is a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We focus on providing the highest level of products and services that improve air quality with saving energy and money in mind. We don’t employ a ‘one size fits all’ mentality. We find out our customers’ needs and wants and then create solutions specifically for them.” All work is custom, and sheet metal is fabricated on site specifically for each project’s needs.
