In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, which was from Oct. 5-11, Northbrook Fire Department held its 23rd annual open house from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 11.

A team of four volunteers gathered behind Congressman Mark Kirk's Northbrook Office at 707 Skokie Blvd. Sept. 3 to load donations for Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Ike victims into a moving van.

The Highland Park Senior Center hosted a "Spanish Fiesta" at the Highland Park Country Club, and the only thing missing was a bullfight.

The Highland Park Senior Center, in cooperation with the Park District of Highland Park, presented its first "Breakfast at the Beach" on June 13.

Residents and veterans of Northbrook gathered in the gymnasium of Northbrook Junior High School for a Veterans Day Memeorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 10. Speakers included Chaplain Harry Clinkunbroomer, Judy Hughes of the Northbrook Historical Society, Chris Birren and Northbrook Police Chief Churck Wornick. Members of the Northbrook Junior High School concert choir also performed patriotic songs for the crowd.
